Wenzel offers a combination of hardware and software products to shorten lead times and improve quality and efficiency in automotive styling studios and mould tool makers.
Typical systems consist of the following elements;
1. An appropriate Wenzel CMM
2. Applicable probes and sensors
3. Fixed or 2 axis milling heads
4. The Wenzel DesCAD3D software package.
Typically dual arm R series machines are used for these applications. They are robust and can cope with the harsh environment of a modelling workshop or styling studio (clay, dust etc.). If milling is required then larger section quills can be provided and magnetic scales can be provided for extremely harsh environments.
The choice of probing and sensors depends very much on the application, with the options being solid probes, Renishaw touch-trigger or continuous scanning probes and laser point or line scanners (up to 40,000 points per second can be collected).
In applications where full size of scale models need to be physically created, drilling and milling heads can be mounted onto the CMM. Wenzel can even supply a 2-axis milling head, offering the most flexible and efficient CMM milling on the market.
In most competitive offerings, different software packages are required to operate all of the different functions (measuring, reverse engineering, milling programming and execution). In the Wenzel solution all the functions above can be operated from one easy to use and powerful system – DesCAD3D.
DesCAD3D can perform the following;
Import of CAD data in the following formats IGES, VDAFS, STL, and ASCII
Measurement of geometric elements
Digitising of surfaces, intersection lines and edges
Processing of digitised results with different functions
Creation or execution of milling programs.
Off-line simulation and editing of milling programs.
Export of data via IGES, VDAFS, STL and ASCII
